Government of Canada Bonds

The Government of Canada is the largest single issuer of bonds in Canada. It issues bonds in its own name and in the name of federal Crown Corporations, such as the Canadian Wheat Board and the Export Development Corporation.

Fully guaranteed by the Government of Canada, the bonds are available for terms from one to 30 years, in denominations as low as $5,000. The level of interest is fixed until maturity, and payments are made semi-annually.

These bonds can be sold at any time.

Government of Canada Bonds are eligible for Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSPs) and Registered Retirement Income Funds (RRIFs).
